Sports technology start-up IOTIS and sporting goods manufacturer ERIMA are entering into a joint product partnership. The aim of the project is to develop and market smart soccer balls for amateur sports. Sensors in soccer balls allow data to be generated during training and analyzed via an app. The technology will be supplied by IOTIS and built into ERIMA soccer balls. Through the partnership, ERIMA is one of the first sporting goods manufacturers in the world to take a major step toward digitalizing grassroots soccer.
‍
The smart soccer balls have the same shape and appearance as normal soccer balls. The technology relies on sensors and complex algorithms with integrated machine learning. This provides the basis for a training and gaming platform. Users can thus connect the smart soccer ball with an app and view data, progress and exercises in real-time. In addition to pure performance improvement, a big focus is on gamified competition with each other as well as sharing results with friends. In order to catch up with the younger generation and continue to get them excited about soccer, the app contains a high degree of gamification.

As a result, IOTIS and ERIMA are addressing the changing digital demands of players and coaches worldwide. In addition, the app serves as a support for them with a variety of exercises, training and challenges.
‍
The ball and app will be available for purchase next year at standard soccer ball prices.
